Being a bit of an av-geek you can imagine my devastation when I heard that Boeing just delivered its last ever Boeing 747 in December 2022. After over 50 years of building them, the very last one coming off the production line is a B747-8F to Atlas.
Since production began in 1967, Boeing has delivered 1,574 of these beautiful birds known fondly as the “Queen of the skies”. Boeing’s B787 Dreamliner, B777 and Airbus A350 – collectively the “big twins” for their 2 rather than 4 engines – now rule the long-haul skies where their better fuel efficiency is King and and A350 version operates “ultra long haul” flights including New York to Singapore 19 hours nonstop. End of an Era but the Queen of skies will not be forgotten!
